Include luminaires in calculation or not?

Post by astorres6030 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 8:14 pm

Hello:

I am making a project of football field and having some doubt concerning to calculation.
So has you know for sure the calculation can be made including luminaires or not (selecting or not the option). So calculation with-out luminaires gives a higher value than with the luminaires. Calculation with luminaires decreases significantly the average and uniformity.

So, which is the most accurate calculation in this case, for a football field? How does the option of making calculation with or with-out luminaires affects so much the final results?

Thank you so much for you help.

Best regards:
A. Torres

Dear Mr. A. Torres,

In order to visualize shapes of your luminaires in the CAD view after calculation you can activate the checkbox “Include luminaires in calculation” as it is shown in your screenshot. If you would like to get a more realistic visualization you should activate the checkbox. In general the shape of luminaires in a football field will influence the results immensely.

Hello,
Thank you for your fast reply.

Yes, I am aware that include the luminaires in the calculation affects a lot the final results.
But how and why does this occur? Is possible to provide a more detailed explanation?

Thank you once more.

Best regards:
A. Torres

Dear Mr. A. Torres,

Actually when using luminaires with a big housing, then their shape will have bigger effect on the calculation results than those ones with smaller shapes.

When you flag "Include luminaires in calculation" Dialux considers not only the light emission but also the body of luminaires. For example if you place two projectors aiming each other, they will cast shadows (in your case decreasing the uniformity on the ground).
