Dialux stopped working + deleted parts of the project

Post by jkml » Thu May 06, 2021 5:57 pm

Hey there,

My friend was working earlier today on a DIALux 4 project (can't work in evo). At one point the project stopped working (crashed). After that, she tried opening it using the same file as before but DIALux yielded a "no such project found" error message. What's also weird is that she backs up her project every evening on Google Drive and after downloading the project from yesterday, it happened that the whole work from the day before was gone (supposedly this made the program crash?).

Here are the files: https://we.tl/t-k22ZwUPmIJ

Files:

kościół zepsuty.dlx - this is the project that crashed during the work
kościół.dlx - backup from the day before that somehow doesn't contain the whole day of work (or doesn't load it?)
kościół.dlx.bak - backup that was at the time on the desktop (but she doesn't know whether it was up-to-date)

It'd be great to get that project up and running so, any help appreciated :) Thanks!

Hello jkml,

Unfortunately, we have no good news for you. We are not able to restore the original project nor the backup file. During the last saving process/ crash, incorrect information was written that no longer allows the file to be opened. This information can no longer be repaired by us.

In case of such problems, there remains always a possibility to get at least a part of your data back. For this, there is the backup file, which is to be found in the same directory as the original file. It is named equally but with the additional extension .bak ("project name.dlx.bak"). You can use this file in DIALux if you simply renames it to "project name 1.dlx". After the renaming the file should be readable as every other DIALux project file. Unfortunately, this does not work in your case either.

To avoid such a dramatic loss of your work, we recommend you to save your project file several times during your planning to a local folder. In addition, you should save your files before calculating, too.

Best regards,

Oh, that's a pity.
They have a quite robust system when it comes to saving/backing up with local files and GDrive cloud backup but that doesn't seem to help over here.

Anyways, would love to use this opportunity to ask another question. Namely, since the v.4. is quite "hard" to work with, I guess it'd be worth switching over to Evo. Thus, can you open a DIALux 4 project in a 32-bit Evo (I know that's possible) then save it as an Evo file and later open it using a 64-bit Evo (and operate on this architecture from now on)?

Thanks :)

Hello jkml,

Yes, you can import DIALux 4 interior projects into evo and then save them as an evo project. You can then load this project in the evo 64-bit version and continue working there.
Please keep in mind that is only possible to import DIALux 4 interior projects into evo, but not the other way round or to export a DLX file from evo.

Regarding the import function of a DIALux 4 project into evo, please have a look at the following two articles from our knowledge base:

http://evo.support-en.dial.de/support/s ... uld-i-use-

Thanks! We did that and it seems to work fine. The only thing that popped up is that you can't perform boolean operations on the parts of the imported DIALux 4 project. Is that how it works? If so, is there a workaround to make it happen (use boolean operations for parts of the imported project and/or merge pre-existing parts with the new ones created in Evo)?

Hello jkml,

The Boolean operations are only available for furniture and objects. Please check in your evo project whether the problematic objects are room elements. In this case, this function is not active.
