Mac

Post by 64_Richard » Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:46 am

Are there any plans for a mac compatible version?
With the new mac processor, it's looking like it will be difficult to run windows in the near future.

Hello 64_Richard,

At the moment there is no Mac version planned. Our focus in evo development is currently on other features like emergency lighting.

Our lighting design software DIALux evo has been solely developed only for Windows systems, which we support exclusively. Currently there is no Mac version planned for evo. We already know this wish from many users, but we are setting our priorities on other improvements for the near future.
However, we can give you a successfully tested workaround, with which it’s possible to use our DIALux evo software on an Apple system. Maybe this will also works on a Linux system.
It's possible to use our latest DIALux evo version with the virtualization software VMware Fusion 8.1.0 in a Windows environment on a Mac system.
With other virtualization software like Bootcamp you probably cannot install our latest DIALux evo version 9.2, because this software does not support the OpenGL version 3.2 that we use in our current evo version.
More information about this issue can be certainly found in an Apple forum or the Parallels website.

Best regards,
DIAL Support Team

I use evo in Fusion 12 at the moment.
The calc times were pretty slow, but it's a 2013 quad core mac, so giving the vm an extra core was an improvement.
And 9.2 seems to be faster as well.
However the new mac processor does not support bootcamp, and, it seems from reports, Windows VMs are not supported yet either.
Now CAD software is readily available for macs, it would be nice if DIALux was too.
(Windows is awful...:-) )

Oh, and is there a time scale for Evo 10?
The emergency lighting looks amazing on the demos I've seen.
Nice one.

Hello 64_Richard,

This is always difficult to predict at this stage of development. Most likely, the release of the evo 10 will happen in the third quarter of this year. Maybe even a little earlier.
