DIALux EVO 9 hang on Fusion/win10x64

Post by petitpiton » Tue Apr 07, 2020 6:42 am

I upgraded DIALux evo from v8.2 to v9 on the win10 x64 guest virtual machine in Fusion on my iMac yesterday. Version 8.2 had run perfectly in this environment. Unfortunately, version 9.0 does NOT run on Fusion. The application launches to a blank, black screen. Observing the process in Task Manager shows the DIALux evo component taking 30-70% of CPU and the memory allocation steadily rising in GBs! I have tried both 64-bit and 32-bit applications with the same result. I need to go back to version 8.2.

Is there any way to download the installer for v8.2 from DIAL? :(

Dear petitpiton,

Please read the following two articles of our DIALux evo knowledge base:

https://evo.support-en.dial.de/support/ ... quirements

https://evo.support-en.dial.de/support/ ... -possible-

Here is the download link for our DIALux evo version 8.2 (Patch 1):

Thank you for the download link.

I am aware of the two articles from the knowledge base, but I had no problem running in Fusion with DIALux evo 8.2 patch1.
It appears that evo v9 has a memory leak when running on Fusion 11.5.3 (latest version) on MacOS Catalina 15.4( latest version) and your articles are now out of date in suggesting that the current version can be used on Fusion. Certainly in my case it cannot.
I would suggest that, even though you do not support Mac, you should investigate the memory leak in case it is affecting Windows installs and just not causing a hang.

Thank you again for the great software and the download link.

Same problem here, I've been using Fusion on a MacBook for several years with Evo and no problem. In looking at the Evo log file, the problems start with these entries...

Code: Select all

ERROR 2020-04-08T17:14:57.104: OpenGLRendersystemLogger: GL_ARB_draw_buffers_blend is not supported!
ERROR 2020-04-08T17:14:58.286: OpenGLRendersystemLogger: Linking program
Error occurred:
error: fragment shader input `texcoordLight' has no matching output in the previous stage

ERROR 2020-04-08T17:14:58.286: GeometryCommon: Scenegraph Exception: 5 RenderSystemException: Creating OpenGL shader program failed!
Then many more exceptions after that. I did just update Fusion today as well, so not sure that if that is the issue. Will try to fall back to 8.2.

FWIW, my associate is running Evo 9 on Bootcamp/Windows with no apparent problems.

Hello,

evo 9.0 requires support for OpenGL 3.2. For evo 8.2 OpenGL 3.0 was enough. Maybe the virtual graphics adapter in Fusion is not 100% compatible with evo.
As far as I know with Bootcamp you have more or less a normal Windows installation running, this should be fine.

Hello again,

I have good news for you. One of our developers was able to find a problem in one of the new shaders that is ignored by all major graphics adapter manufacturers driver but not by the Fusion driver.
He has already changed this and we are confident this will solve your problem.
We will release the bugfix with the next patch version.

Thanks for posting the graphics log!

Best Regards
Kolja

Ha...I've spent all day trying to get the answer to this...
(Note to self, check all the forums.)

Fusion runs openGL 3.3 as far as I'm aware.
When will the bug fix be released?
And will this be a problem in Evo 10...(The one we've been waiting years for)?

Hello 64_Richard,

We will release the bugfix together with some other fixed issues asap (when it is done).

Will this be a problem in evo 10?
I hope not, but we normally do not announce bugs for new versions in advance, they are special surprises ;)
At the moment I am not aware of any plans to change the required OpenGL version in the near future.

Best Regards
