Show Light Visualization Tool!?!?

Post by Matt.Kennedy » Tue Jan 31, 2023 5:36 am

Hello All,

I am a young new electrical engineer, who has only been using Dialux since the release of Dialux Evo. My boss has had me using it for a little while and so I understand the basics and fundemental principles, however my issue is with the 'Show Light Visualization' tool/feature. Both my boss (who is very well versed in the previous versions of Dialux) and I both can't seem to understand why when you turn this feature on for a selected luminaire it shows a different light visualization than the normal calculation.

We understand that as you increase the slider it includes up to 50 of the neighboring luminaires, but why when they are selected do the luminaire visualization appear brighter. We've ultimately come to the conclusion that we just can't trust the colour visualization at all and are relying on the point data. Can someone please explain this to me so my boss and I can understand how to use the tool??

Cheers.

Dear Matt.Kennedy,

I would be happy to explain the difference between the "Light visualization of luminaires" function and the light visualization of luminaires after calculation in our evo software.

With the function ""Light visualization of the luminaires" the customer should only get a visual impression of the luminaire. Here, based on the light distribution curve of the luminaire only with direct light and the help of the graphics card, a first impression of the luminaire should be given. This is helpful, for example, when placing a spotlight to see if the spotlight has been positioned correctly. With this display, reflections cannot be taken into account either and no calculation results can be generated.

Only after the "normal" calculation the correct calculation results are calculated and also all reflections are considered.

Thank you for the reply, however this still doesn't exactly clear it up for me, because my results are actually changing depending on if the setting is on or off.

You should be able to see this for the images I attached. You can clearly see that the hot spots are significantly larger than with the setting off.

Dear Matt.Kennedy,

If you see the false colors, es you must have calculated your project before you activated the light visualization of the luminaires in your project.
In this case, you place the light visualization of the luminaires on the already calculated surfaces via the graphics card. This will then cause these luminaires to appear even more intense.

Please rely on the calculated results of our evo software and use the light visualization feature only as an aid for luminaire alignment.
